The Parmigiano-Reggiano Museum
The new museum of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese of Soragna, part of the Musei del Cibo itinerary, is hosted in an old 18th century dairy belonging to Prince Meli Lupi, recently restored.
In this round building, recreating a typical cheese factory of the beginning of the 20th century, are gathered all tools necessary for cheese processing: a huge bell shaped copper dating back to 19th century, an old milk handcart, a steam engine and a churn of the beginning of our last century. More than one hundred utensils help the visitor discover the gastronomic art and culture hidden behind a Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. In the Sala della Salamoia, several boards will illustrate the history of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese while the third section of the museum, the Sala del latte (Hall of milk) is dedicated to cheese ageing, the Consortium of Parmigiano Reggiano and multimedia resources.
Old rural annexes of the dairy-museum house the ticket office and a shop where visitors can buy and taste delicious products
